Chasing Cars

October 5th, 2006 by cheek

We’ll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don’t need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don’t quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
but not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

Let’s waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
to remind me
to find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see

I don’t know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Arsenal top list of players at the World Cup

June 15th, 2006 by cheek

Although clubs from Spain’s La Liga scooped both European trophies last season, the Premiership can claim to be the place to be for players with World Cup ambitions.

Premiership clubs are top of the list for teams supplying international players for this summer’s festival of football in Germany.

Over 100 players from English clubs are named in the 2006 FIFA World Cup squads, equivalent to one in seven of the total. German clubs come a distant second with 73.

The top tier of English football are not the only suppliers however with around 12 of the 30 English clubs represented currently playing outside the Premiership.

And as for single clubs supplying the most World Cup players, England wins again. Arsenal and Chelsea top this list with 16 players representing their countries from both clubs.

Arsenal’s representatives will be Gilberto (Brazil), Tomas Rosicky (Czech Republic), Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole and Theo Walcott (all England), Thierry Henry (France), Jens Lehmann (Germany), Robin van Persie (Holland), Emmanuel Eboue and Kolo Toure (Ivory Coast), Cesc Fabregas and Jose Antonio Reyes (Spain), Freddie Ljungberg (Sweden), Philippe Senderos and Johan Djourou (Switzerland) and Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo).

Manchester United come in third with 13 players going to Germany, followed by AC Milan and Juventus (12) and our European Cup conquerors Barcelona with 11.

Only two national squads - Italy and Saudi Arabia - are made up entirely of players from clubs from their own country.

Change

Remember the days where stability was the order of the day and people remained in the same job for life? No? That was probably a long time ago.

In today’s unpredictable economy and job market, a career change is often a "necessary" step in order to enhance one’s current work life situation and/or to generate an increase in income.

If you are contemplating on such a move, be warned - there is a dark side to contend with, for every opportunity is always accompanied with its risks. Here are some tips for you to consider before you make your big move:

Have a Clear Mission Statement
What is the big picture or your overall vision for your professional life? Have you ever clearly defined your career priorities, goals and values?

Like a corporate machine, you need to set a benchmark and a goal in order to prosper. Hence, if a career change is your wish, do devise a mission statement. Spend some time on this and use it as a guiding force in pursuing what you want to do and who you want to be.

Always remember - Look before you leap. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
Find Your Dream Career
Have you examined how your present skills can be transferred into a new career path? Do bolster your chances of getting hired by leveraging on your strengths to identify where you fit best. To achieve this, it’s important to recognise what you can and cannot control. Then, short-list several positions or companies that will serve as a natural transition into your new field.

Or perhaps, you may consider to request for an internal transfer. This can be another opportunity for you to develop your skills, boost your visibility and expand your network. An internal transfer will also benefit your company as it helps to keep attrition low.

Connect into Your Target Field
You can’t just depend on your resume when trying to switch careers. Yes, you MUST regularly update it but it is never enough. For this reason, networking and connecting with people in your target field becomes even more critical.

The Happy Hedonist

March 17th, 2006 by cheek

A spontaneous and dynamic person, you don’t presume to know what the future holds - and like it that way! However, the eternal optimist in you likes to believe that tomorrow will be better than today. You seldom make plans, and can be quite allergic to routine. Keenly attuned to the possibilities of each new dawn, you are quick to recognize and capitalize on opportunities. In your downtime you like to switch off, kick back and zone out. You tend to be highly receptive to new technology, and easily excited by novelty. A childlike sense of wonder heightens your enjoyment of new products - ‘wow’ is a word that often falls from your lips. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and you enjoy sharing your discoveries with others. You like to keep abreast of innovations, and preferably one step ahead of them. The cutting edge is your comfort zone - you wouldn’t be seen dead sporting an ‘old’ model of anything. (Unless of course it’s ‘classic’ or ‘vintage’.) Your big personality attracts an adoring fan club. You are a passionate lover… of life!

Environment vs Perception change

February 19th, 2006 by cheek

A story and a lesson about perception: A group of male
friends repeatedly visited a certain Coffee house because they all found a particular coffee barista beautiful. They kept going to the same house,
just to see her. However one day she unexpectedly quit working at the cafe. Suddenly, the
experience of going to the shop became boring, even though nothing had changed;
expect the presence of the waitress. One day, one of the guys thought he saw
the barista in the city but was not sure, as he
did not think the woman was beautiful. After confirming that it was indeed the
barites, he realized that it was the atmosphere of the shop, and the fact that
all his friends thought she was attractive, that made her seem beautiful to
him.

Remember that the environment influences everything.
Likewise, everything influences the environment. We, as individuals, also
influence our environment. When we are sad, the environment we are in becomes a
sad place. When we are happy, our surroundings seem happy and positive. This
idea can be applied to how we recognize and understand the world around us. Lt
is holistic way of seeing. In other words, our perception always depends on the
condition of the environment and ourselves.

Am I LOST?

48 survivors fight to stay alive on a tropical island with
a malicious mind of its own, after their plane mysteriously tears apart over it.

When a plane crash leaves 48 survivors on a remote Pacific island,
a fight for survival begins in what appears to be a tropical paradise.

From a faded rock star to a Korean couple who don’t speak any
English, the motley group band together under the leadership of quick-thinking
Jack and pragmatic Kate in a battle against the elements.

But they soon realise that it’s no ordinary island that they’ve
landed on. With oddly temperamental weather, malicious forces that play the
survivors to the island’s own mysterious purposes, and a strange ecology that
allows polar bears to survive in its tropical climate, the island has an
inscrutable mind of its own.

And when members of the motley group start to see spectres of long
dead people and bizarre creatures, a deep, dark terror starts to grow and spread
throughout the community.

Even as the survivors’ shocking secrets start to emerge, they
realise they have no choice but to put aside conflicting views and rally
together – or die.

How did they get lost?

From the Bermuda triangle to a top secret military experiment
to life between heaven and hell - theories and spoilers abound. So what is it
that’s actually happening to the characters in Lost? As the twist and turns of
the plot unfold, fans continue to buzz with questions and theories, and here are
some of the most widely discussed theories:

The Bermuda Triangle.
First
of the four paranormal theories about the series LOST, the Bermuda Triangle has
claimed countless lives for over 100 years -spawning numerous books,
pseudo-documentaries, and tabloid headlines. Many viewers are convinced
something sinister is responsible for the disappearance of Oceanic flight 815,
and a possible flight path over "Devil’s Triangle" may explain the mystery.

Purgatory.
Lost between
heaven and hell, Purgatory is believed to be a transcendental location or vacuum
where "unclean" souls go at the time of death. It has been traditionally viewed
as a place of torment, the purpose of which is to purify the individual. Some
viewers believe that none of the characters survived the plane crash, and what
we see on screen is a form of karmic retribution that is to be suffered by the
unfortunate souls of flight 815.

Conspiracy Theory.
This
broadly popularized LOST theory explains that the passenger airline was not
responsible for the misery of the 48 remaining survivors on the island. Many
theories speculate over a military project including a possible experiment
masterminded by the government - that all 48 people are "captured" guinea pigs
of this top secret project and that the island itself is one huge Jurassic Park
laboratory.

Another X-File.
One of the
more popular LOST theories supports the existence of aliens - from the "others"
inhabiting the island to the mysterious numbers appearing on and off to
misplaced polar bears including the invisible monster that Locke encountered. In
the real world, the alien and UFO phenomenon is so widespread and present in our
modern times and includes such other theories as abduction, unknown races, and
other unexplained phenomenon.
